Ovi is a free local Windows desktop reader for AI-generated Markdown docs, drafts, plans, reports, and specs. It opens local files or folders, shows a folder tree, renders Markdown in clean reading tabs, and keeps recurring work close through Recents and Pins.
Ovi stays read-only. It reads the folder you choose, does not edit, move, rename, or delete files, and does not require an account or cloud sync.
Who it is for
Ovi is for founders, operators, consultants, and client-facing teams who receive long AI-generated Markdown files from Codex, Claude, ChatGPT, and similar tools.
It also works for technical readers who want repo docs or AI files in a reader-first UI instead of a code editor.
Current stage
Ovi is live for Windows at getovi.in. Windows x64 is the current public release. macOS and Linux are on the roadmap.
Key features
- Open an AI-generated doc or folder and start reading without a code editor.
- Move through plans, reports, specs, and drafts from one clean folder tree.
- Keep multiple documents open in tabs while comparing long AI outputs.
- Pin client, project, or research folders and reopen recent work from Welcome.
- Launch straight from a terminal or AI workflow with
ovi .orovi <path>. - Read tables, code, diagrams, equations, and long sections in a polished document view.
- Use mixed folders without cleanup: Markdown opens in Ovi, other files open in your default apps.
- Review safely: Ovi stays local and read-only, so source files are not edited or moved.
Stack
Ovi is built with Tauri v2, Rust, React 19, TypeScript, and Tailwind CSS. The reader uses a Markdown pipeline with Shiki, Mermaid, and KaTeX for code, diagrams, and equations.
